Day 2: First Step

I ran for the first time today for 10 minutes which was approximately 1 mile on the treadmill. I don't think I did too shabby if I do say so myself. I don't know if I particularly like the treadmill though. I didn't run with music instead I ran with thoughts. I noticed I zoned out a bit every once in a while because I can't recall anything I was thinking about in particular. I do know that in the last few minutes I started counted my steps as if I had OCD. I also tried focusing on a fixed point as well for a period of time that seemed to help for a bit. It allowed me to get into a steady pace and rhythm. An hour or so after running I felt better. My body in general feels better and I feel like I accomplished something today. Let's hope this feeling continues! But for now lets see what tomorrow brings. It's suppose to rain so i wonder if this will affect my attitude/mood and/or self-discipline toward running tomorrow? I don't we'll have to wait and see....

What are your thoughts on treadmills vs a track or the outdoors?

  1. First off great choice for a study. I think you will find that running is one of the best ways to relive stress. Second I would vote outdoors. Treadmills and tracks are repetitive in the fact that you see the same things over and over again getting bored. Running outdoors is like people watching on fast forward. As you run you will see new people, friends, people you find different, and even a dog or two. Outside just keeps you busy as you run.

  2. Thanks Kyle! I thought it would be really interesting and beneficial to myself as well as others. I definitely want to work up to running outside. Isn't the Ball State campus approximately a mile long? Maybe after a couple weeks of running we can go running outside and I will hopefully be able to keep up with you long strides! lol

    1. I think it is something like that. The blue loop is two miles exact. Text me if you want a running partner. I would gladly be a part of your project
